The D-SUB extension cable ShiverPeaks AK 234 9-pin Male/Female 5 m is a 9-pin Sub-D extension designed to extend DB9 serial connections for RS-232 devices up to five metres. It provides a male-to-female connection that preserves the original pin routing with a straight 1:1 mapping across all nine pins, enabling reliable continuation of serial signal paths between host and peripheral equipment.

Advantages

This extension cable maintains full 1:1 pin assignment for all nine contacts, ensuring signal integrity and straightforward compatibility with standard RS-232 wiring. The fixed male-to-female connector pair simplifies installation without the need to remap pins or change adapter configurations. Its five-metre length offers extended reach for workstations, industrial controllers, legacy serial terminals and other devices that use DB9 connectors.

Suitable for

• Extending RS-232 serial connections between PCs and serial peripherals
• Connecting industrial controllers, PLCs and instrumentation with DB9 ports
• Linking legacy COM ports to modems, barcode scanners or serial printers
• Temporary or permanent wiring runs in control cabinets and service benches

Key specifications

• Connector type: 9-pin D-Sub (male to female)
• Pin mapping: straight 1:1 connection for all pins
• Cable length: 5.0 metres
• Designed for: RS-232 / DB9 serial communication
• Contact layout: standard DB9 pin arrangement

How to use

Plug the male 9-pin D-Sub connector into the corresponding female DB9 port on the host device and connect the female end of the extension to the male connector of the peripheral. Ensure connectors are aligned and fasten the thumbscrews or screws to secure the connection. Use only with devices that employ standard RS-232 voltage levels and DB9 pin assignments to avoid miswiring.

Recommendations

For best performance, route the cable away from high-voltage power lines and strong electromagnetic sources. Keep total RS-232 cable run lengths within recommended limits for reliable serial communication; if longer runs are necessary, consider signal repeaters or alternative serial extenders. Inspect connectors for bent pins before use and tighten screw fittings to prevent intermittent contacts.
