The DeLOCK Serial Connection Cable (model 64162) features a USB 2.0 Type-A male connector to an RS-232 RJ45 female connector and a compact 25 cm cable length. It uses an FTDI chipset to provide reliable data transmission when connecting a PC or laptop to serial console ports on networking equipment. The cable is supplied in black and is suitable for direct console control of compatible devices.

Advantages

The cable provides a direct USB-to-serial interface using a proven FTDI chipset for stable communication. Its short 25 cm length reduces cable clutter while keeping devices close together. The RS-232 RJ45 female end is compatible with many console ports on routers, switches and access points, enabling straightforward setup and configuration from a computer without requiring a separate serial port.

Suitable for

• Console access to CISCO routers and switches
• Connecting access points and other network devices with RS-232 RJ45 console ports
• Serial configuration and troubleshooting from a PC or laptop

How to use

Connect the USB Type-A end to an available USB port on the PC or laptop. Plug the RS-232 RJ45 connector into the console port of the target device. If required by the operating system, install the FTDI driver so the USB-to-serial adapter is recognised as a COM port. Use terminal software (for example, a serial console application) to open the corresponding COM port with the correct baud rate and communication settings for the networking device.

Recommendations

Use a short, direct connection and avoid excessive bending near the connectors. Verify and install the latest FTDI drivers from a trusted source if the host system does not automatically recognise the adapter. For console work, keep terminal settings (baud rate, parity, data bits, stop bits) consistent with the device documentation.
