The Socket Mobile SocketScan S740 is a handheld 1D/2D barcode scanner with Bluetooth wireless connectivity and an LED sensor. It reads barcodes from printed labels and screens, features a lightweight ergonomic housing and a rechargeable AA NiMH battery designed for full workday use. Visual LEDs indicate battery status, Bluetooth connection and scan confirmations. The device is compatible with applications written for previous Socket Mobile scanners and can be configured quickly using the Socket Mobile Companion app or integrated into custom software via Socket Mobile’s Capture SDK.

Advantages

The S740 combines support for both linear (1D) and matrix (2D) barcodes with Bluetooth wireless operation for flexible placement and mobile workflows. Its compact, ergonomic design and low weight make it easy to handle during extended use, while LED indicators simplify status checks. Rechargeable AA NiMH power provides familiar battery servicing and reliable runtime for retail, office and field environments.

Suitable for

When it may not be suitable

It is not intended for intrinsically safe or hazardous-area environments and lacks specialized housings for heavy industrial impact or extreme weather conditions. For environments requiring very high drop ratings, sealed waterproof designs, or non-standard wireless protocols, consider industrial-grade scanners designed for those conditions.

How to use

Charge or install a charged AA NiMH battery, pair the scanner with a Bluetooth-enabled host device following the on-screen pairing prompts or the companion app, and aim the scanner at the barcode. Trigger a scan using the device’s scan control and verify successful reads using the LED indicators and host application. For application integration, use Socket Mobile’s Capture SDK to enable direct data capture into custom software. Use the Companion app for device setup, configuration and firmware updates.

Recommendations

For reliable daily operation, keep a charged spare AA NiMH battery, maintain a clear line of sight between scanner and barcode where possible, and use the Socket Mobile Companion app or Capture SDK to optimise pairing and data workflows for retail, inventory or field-service tasks.
