Connect the incoming Ethernet cable to one RJ45 jack and the outgoing cable to the other; the built-in ground wire must be connected to a proper earth point. Data flows at full Gigabit speed, and PoE devices continue to receive power through the protector. During a surge, the internal gas discharge tubes and silicon avalanche diodes clamp the voltage to safe levels, diverting the energy to ground.
