HPE 146 GB 2,5 inch SAS 15000 U/min 740056-001

The HPE 146 GB 2.5" SAS 15000 RPM internal hard drive is a high-speed storage device designed for enterprise-class servers and storage arrays. Offering 146 GB of formatted capacity in a compact 2.5-inch form factor, this drive uses a Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) interface and a 15,000 RPM spindle speed to deliver low latency and consistent I/O performance for demanding workloads.

Advantages

This 2.5" SAS HDD provides a balance of high rotational speed and small physical footprint, enabling improved random I/O and faster access times compared with lower-RPM drives. The drive’s enterprise-oriented design emphasizes sustained performance under heavy transactions and predictable behavior in RAID arrays and multi-drive configurations. Its compact size allows higher drive density in server bays and blade enclosures, supporting scalable storage deployments.

Suitable for

• Database servers requiring fast random read/write performance
• Transaction processing systems and virtualized environments
• RAID arrays and storage pools where sustained I/O and reliability are essential
• Enterprise applications with high IOPS and low latency demands

Key specifications

• Capacity: 146 GB
• Form factor: 2.5-inch
• Interface: Serial Attached SCSI (SAS)
• Rotational speed: 15,000 RPM
• Designed for enterprise-class server and storage use

How to use

Install the drive into a compatible 2.5-inch hot-swap bay or direct-mount tray in a server or storage enclosure that supports SAS interfaces. Configure firmware and RAID settings according to the server vendor’s guidelines, and ensure the drive is recognised in the system management utility before placing it into production. Perform a secure initialization and, if required, format or partition the drive per your operating system or hypervisor requirements.

Recommendations

Use this HDD in environments where sustained random I/O performance is required. Match the drive to controller firmware that supports enterprise SAS drives and include it in monitored RAID configurations with regular health checks. For workloads demanding the highest throughput or lowest latency, consider combining these HDDs with solids-state storage for caching or tiering.
