Softbox walimex Essential Octa 90 Studio-Lichtformer 90 cm διάμετρος

The Softbox walimex Essential Octa 90 studio light modifier 90 cm diameter is an octagonal softbox designed to shape and soften light from studio flashes and continuous lights. With a 90 cm diameter, it provides a broad, even light source that reduces hard shadows and produces a flattering catchlight for portraits while maintaining natural light falloff for product and fashion photography. The construction is intended for use in both studio and on-location setups and supports quick assembly and compact transport.

Advantages

The octagonal shape creates a rounded catchlight that appears natural in eye reflections and contributes to gentle, even illumination across subjects. The 90 cm surface balances coverage and portability, offering sufficient spread for half- to full-body portraits and small product setups while remaining manageable for handheld or boom-mounted fixtures. Fabric diffusion layers soften the output of strobes and continuous lamps, minimizing specular highlights and smoothing skin tones. The softbox is compatible with common speedring mounts and is built for straightforward assembly, making it suitable for frequent setup and teardown.

Suitable for

• Portrait photography where soft, directional light and natural catchlights are required
• Product photography for evenly lit small to medium items
• Fashion and editorial shoots needing controlled, flattering light falloff
• On-location shoots where a portable soft light modifier is needed

Key specifications

• Shape: octagonal (octa)
• Diameter: 90 cm
• Function: softening and evenly diffusing light from flashes and continuous lamps
• Diffusion: inner and outer diffusion layers for smoother output
• Mounting: compatible with standard speedrings and light stands
• Portability: foldable construction for compact transport

How to use

Assemble the octa frame and attach the softbox to your speedring according to the manufacturer's guidelines for the mount you use. Install the inner diffusion panel first if included, position your strobe or continuous head centrally behind the softbox, and then attach the outer diffusion panel. Adjust the distance between the softbox and the subject to control the softness and spread of light: closer placement yields softer, more wraparound illumination, while greater distance increases coverage and contrast. Use light stands or boom arms rated for your lighting head to maintain stable positioning during shoots.

Recommendations

For portrait work, place the Softbox walimex Essential Octa 90 slightly above eye level and angled down to create natural catchlights and soft shadowing. Combine with a reflector or fill light to reduce contrast when needed. When shooting products, adjust the softbox distance and angle to avoid unwanted reflections and to emphasize texture. Store the softbox in a protective bag to preserve diffusion fabrics and frame integrity during transport.
